Film Review: Half-Blood Prince

A few non-spoilery overall sorts of comments. I really enjoyed this film. Pretty much, anything that is not as bad as Prisoner of Azkaban was, is a good film for me, and this one managed to be a good film. There is something nagging at me a little bit, but I can't figure out what it is so I'm going to ignore that for the time being.

I've read all 7 books so consider this to be spoilers for all books as well as for the film.

HBP Spoilers Ahoy )

Overall, really enjoyed it. I have quibbles, but PoA remains my least favourite film, and I think this one remains pretty even with OotP in terms of having enjoyed it.

Review; Star Trek; Thoughts on Characterizations mostly.

In the interest of moving my LiveJournal towards friends only and yet keeping random discussions public, I'm going to write this on Dreamwidth and just crosspost like crazy.

I'm still musing over Star Trek this morning, so some spoilery thoughts and discussion underneath the cut.

I keep seeing 'I really like this' on my flist, which is fascinating to me I guess because the sense I got from both R was more 'meh'. I think I'm somewhere in between, really.

And what I'm somewhat curious about from my flist is where people fall within the realm of Trekkies. For myself, I wouldn't consider myself a Trekkie, although perhaps I'm getting closer than I might have been at one point. Essentially I've seen almost all of TNG at this point, much of Enterprise, I-IV of the films, several episodes of TOS, several episodes of Voyager and a very, very few of Deep Space Nine. I've read no books, written no fan fic and so, since I can't rattle off random facts about the universe or have things like the blueprints to the Enterprise on my bookshelf (R does, and they're very cool), I really don't feel like I can consider myself a Trekkie even though I know I've seen way more than some people probably have.

Okay, adore.

I keep coming up with things about Dreamwidth that I really freaking like, such as, oh, the fact that I can actually code usernames to redirect to insanejournal ([info]hafren) or livejournal ([info]sabrinanymph). So far it's the little things that just make me go, oh, why hasn't someone thought of that before, thank you, and I am happy.

And yes, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with creative writing stuff, it's just a squee.

Fic: ‘Underground’ (Charlie, Fred, George, Arthur, PG-13, DH spoilers)

Title: Underground
Author: [info]sabrinanymph
Rating: PG.
Length: (4,331)
Summary: During Deathly Hallows, Charlie holds the defenses.
Warnings: None.
Author's note/Disclaimer: Omniocular's August Challenge #93: ‘What was Charlie doing this entire book?’; Obviously not mine.

Look relaxed. You have your passes - and you all know how to use them. Keep your wands accessible, but hidden. If it comes to a fight, stunning and disarming spells are going to be useful, but try to look completely Muggle - your life may depend upon you embracing your past. )

Note. Anyone who is a native Londoner, or someone who knows London well, I'd love verification on the ticketing for the Underground. Historical ticketing practises, actually. HP-Lexicon places the final battle in May 1998, so this story spans 1997 - 1998. From what I can tell, Oyster cards (although used in the film version of Order of the Phoenix) weren't issued to the public until 2003. From best I can tell, prior to that point Annual Travelcards - as well as one day, monthly, etc - were what were used to calculate fares. Since I didn't visit London until last year, and we just used Oyster cards, I'd love to know if anything doesn't mesh.

Ficlet: Post Apocalyptic Morag MacDougal

Everyone was doing 'what if' prompts for a Euphoria Lane post-apocalyptic world. I jumped in with my version of Morag MacDougal for that game, and this is what I came up with. Poor girl. This is post-apocalyptic people, in other words, Voldemort won, so not very cheery.

Title: La Petite Mort
Author: [info]sabrinanymph
Characters: Morag MacDougal, Marsyas Smith, Myrl MacDougal
Summary: "Music was supposed to be her escape. You can’t stop the music, or something like that, and yet, when Myrl had disappeared, that night after the Aberdeen concert, she’d felt the notes go flat."
Word count: 770
Setting: Post-Apocalyptic EL world for onthecharts.
RPG Canon: [info]euphorialane
Rating: Definitely PG-13 possibly R.

Fic: The Lost Boy

Right, so I'm finally getting around to posting this. It's the fic that sort of came into my head some point last week. I wanted to let it sit for a while to gel before I reread it and made a few changes and posted it.

Title: The Lost Boy
Fandom: Harry Potter
Word Count: 2959
Summary: Hogwarts: A History, revised.
SPOILERS for Deathly Hallows!! Obviously.

They were an entire generation lost in the depths of hatred, dislike, paranoia and outright hostility )

Concrit and comments always welcome.

Ficlet: Severus Snape: Irony

So, I'm cleaning out my hard drive, trying to get stuff on a back-up that I really want to save, and I stumbled across this ficlet, from Diagonally/Adversuscaptio canon, way back whenever. I know most of you weren't in DA, but I wanted to archive it someplace online and this seemed to make more sense than my LJ.

Title: Irony
Author: Sabrina
Characters: Severus Snape/Raelyn Vector
Rating: PG
Word Count: 375
RPG Canon: Diagonally/Adversuscaptio

Many years ago there was a young boy with dark hair and pale skin who was sorted into Slytherin house and he loved a girl with red hair and green eyes who was sorted into Gryffindor, but she could have never loved him back. )

Ficlet: Perfect

Because [info]dawn_m wished for Terry/Padma fic and I got inspired. Now, I don't know Terry and Padma as well, but I know Parvati inside-out, so this is from her perspective. In other words, it's Terry/Padma through the looking glass of Parvati.

Title: Perfect
Characters: Padma Patil/Terry Boot, Parvati Patil/Anthony Goldstein
Summary: Parvati helps her sister prepare for her wedding day.
Notes/Disclaimers: As mentioned above, for Dawn who wished for Terry/Padma fic. All characters are originally J.K. Rowling's. Terry, Padma, and Anthony are unavoidably influenced by Mercy, Dawn, and James' characterizations in Red Death. Merry Christmas Dawn!

Padma was the bride of Parvati’s dreams )
